Direk Sithikarn began his study on metal embossment in 1982 from his relatives and cousins. Since then, he has always put the effort to improve his skills in handicrafts by himself. He pioneered a development of unique design, such as famous people’s portraits, significant historical events, images in literatures, and Buddhist art works, with several materials like gold, silver, copper and aluminum. Furthermore, Direk has also offered an embossment course, local wisdom, for a Non-Formal Education Centre and Sri Suphan Community Education Center since 2001. Now, he also opens the same course at Sri Suphan Municipal School and interested individuals. His embossment works range from bowls, trays, water containers, and metal plates. His patterns represent Lanna identity, such as Horse tamarind and pineapple, and other design, such as traditional Burmese, Sibsongbanna (Xishuangbanna) and Thai Lu patterns.
